Modernism Week, February 14th-24th, 2019, is right around the corner and soon Palm Springs, California will be filled with interior design’s jet-setters, world-reknown style-makers and architectural aficionados. The yearly mid-century modern event began in 2006 and in 2009, became an official non-profit organization dedicating to preserving modern architecture and design.
What exactly is modernism?
Modernism is an era/movement that breaks away from traditional design and emphasizes up-to-date materials, form before function and streamlined styles.
Whether you are seeking to update your MCM decor or just want to add some Hollywood glam, 1502 Fabrics can help you recreate the era with contemporary fabrics that offer functional and beautiful styles for today’s modern home.
This year, bright, neon and saturated colors are hot! Modern interiors can ran the gamut from stream-lined minimalism to outrageous but our examples fall in-between. The room below is super livable, filled with effortless solids such as velvet and solid whites (not to worry, we have a huge selection of stain-resistant and bleach cleanable fabrics in light colors). Notice the artwork, sculptures, lighting, furniture and window size? Their proportions are similar and create a framework for the room. Want less fuss? Opt for simple overhead lighting and fewer decorative accessories.
Keep fabrics simple focusing on solid textures, a few bold colors or tone-on-tone patterns such as geometrics or contemporary fabrics. Layer with neutral patterned drapery panels, wall-coverings and mirrored or acrylic accents to keep it all in check. Pile on cozy, faux-fur pillows during colder months…or, add faux-fur upholstery!
Don’t forget your seasonal outdoor spaces – especially poolside (caftans and Mai Tai’s, optional!). These sunny spots are perfect for entertaining and today’s indoor/outdoor fabrics are easy to maintain and clean!
