Fabric Friends, fall is right around the corner and one of our favorite, go-to looks for the season happens to be experiencing a huge resurgence in 2019-2020. We are talking about houndstooth home decor fabric!
What exactly is houndstooth?
Houndstooth originated in 1800’s Scotland, originally in the black and white palette you know best. It started gaining popularity amongst Scottish royalty in the early 1900s and later, became a mainstream hit when Christian Dior outfitted 1950’s fashionistas with houndstooth as part of his “new look”. The houndstooth name itself refers to the shape’s canine tooth resemblance.
A smaller version is affectionately called “Puppytooth.”
Blass is a new houndstooth pattern from Revolution Fabrics. It is part of their collection of worry-free, stain resistant fabrics made of olefin. It is bleach-cleanable to keep whites their brightest. Blass features a medium scale houndstooth with a less formal look.
While houndstooth home decor fabric is classified as traditional, playing with scale and color can dramatically change the aesthetic. For a whimsical look, add color – any color. Yes, houndstooth is one of those patterns with which any color makes an easy accent. Stay tailored and classic by pairing it only with neutrals.
One of our favorite patterns is called Leroux; a durable and soft, woven houndstooth fabric with just the right amount of texture. Leroux is offered in many classic and contemporary colors. Stop by our High Point location to see many more houndstooth fabrics not yet available online!
