Whew! High Point’s Semi-Annual furniture market is finally over and now it is time to report our design and trend findings!
If you are not familiar with the event, every fall and spring, downtown High Point hosts the largest furnishings industry trade show in the world. Fabric, furniture and accessory showrooms come alive, filled with exciting new offerings and abuzz with the hottest designers from around the world. The market is open to the trade only so this is a great opportunity for designers and vendors to get a first hand look at what’s new and immediately share their findings with customers and clients.
The top emerging home decor trends for 2019:
- Black & White Graphic Patterns
- Velvet Everything
- Faux Fur, Animal Prints and Animal Motifs
- Custom Trimmings
- Abstract Art
Black and white is one of 2019-2020 hottest trends. Whether it’s a simple pairing of solids including contrast trim or a collection of bold, graphic patterns, this is a fun look to use sparingly or as the focus of an entire space. Depending on how adventurous you are, black and white fabrics can make a dramatic statement and are a safe, classic style.
Velvet everything! Velvet fabric is one of our favorite go-to textures and not just for upholstery. Velvet drapery panels, bedding including headboards, bedskirts and naturally velvet pillows galore were seen in over half of the showrooms. Velvet is a hard wearing fabric and feels great to the touch. It doesn’t have to be limited to dressy or formal areas. Pair it with a slubby tweed or solid fabric.
Animal prints and jungle motifs including leopards, tigers, snakes and exotic birds were hugely popular this year with patterns shown on a large scale.
At CR Laine, we saw many of Hamilton’s fabrics including new cut velvet leopard, Ocelot, offered in several colors.
Have you ever considered adding a tape trim to the bottom of a chair, sofa or ottoman? You should! Adding a contrasting fabric or decorative trim including fringe gives your furniture a customized, one-of-a-kind look.
Finally, abstract art whether on the wall or on your furniture’s upholstery also dominated this year’s market. 1502 Fabrics has a large selection of abstract fabrics and contemporary looks as well. Ask about ordering abstract artwork for your home through The Textile Art Shop in our High Point store.
