A few weeks ago, we highlighted some of your home decor projects, specifically custom window treatments, using 1502’s fabrics.

2020 design trends continue to emphasize a return to individuality. With the daily bombardment of ‘off-the-shelf’, ready-made offerings (if you truly believe we see up to 4,000 ads a day), custom home decor is becoming increasingly attractive.

We are spending more time than ever in our homes. Many of us now work from home, at least some of the time. Entertainment comes to us via theater rooms and digital streaming. Freshly prepared meals are delivered to our door and shopping takes place, well, anywhere. Let’s look at some ways to customize our spaces; intentionally curated to reflect our personal stories and how our lifestyle influences those choices.

Window Seat

Create a seamless transition between walls and windows by repeating the same or similar colors. The reading nook above screams custom…bespoke details like the Roman shade with a fun tape trim, the boxed cushion featuring contrast cord and did you notice the sofa’s cushion is a soft chenille fabric instead of leather.

Pro Tip: Use a complementary color to add some pop!

Custom Living Room Decor

Let’s take a look at the room above. Traditional decor and an eclectic mix of layered elements make this space feel tailor made. Antiques mixed with heirloom pieces, layers of textiles and texture, mutiple patterns in varying styles and lots of artwork We especially love the slipcovered chairs; a great alternative to full upholstered furniture.

They offer versatility and washability (check your cleaning codes to be sure!). A soft ruffle as opposed to a box pleat, creates a casual look and adds a layer of femininity.

Many of us hear the word custom and immediately equate it with big dollar signs but this doesn’t have to be the case. With thousands of close-out fabrics available at discount prices, you can easily swing custom and sometimes come out even or cheaper than buying ready made.
